The Cassa di Risparmio di Cento, in collaboration with Cedacri, carried out an innovative project to digitalize its internal processes and dematerialize contracts. Following the 2012 earthquake that temporarily prevented access to bank documents, the bank in Romagna started a dematerialization project that quickly led to 80% of operations being digitalized and started an Advanced Electronic Signature project.
C. R. Cento is one of few Italian banks that started with document dematerialization and then moved on to electronic signature and digitalization of contracts at the counter.
Zero paper use, reduced waiting times for customers at the counter and reduced operational risks through the use of a biometric signature, as well as reduced errors in documentation. Stefano Aldovrandi, Deputy General Manager of the Cassa di Risparmio di Cento states that "unlike the paper procedure, in order to archive a contract, all of the signing steps must be completed. If even one is skipped, the signature is interrupted and invalidated. In this manner, not only are errors limited, but there is no need to have the customer come back to the office to sign other documents".
The Cassa Risparmio di Cento started this project with Cedacri S.p.A. that already provides the bank with its complete full outsourcing service and possesses expertise in process dematerialization and digitalization.
The Cassa Risparmio di Cento and Cedacri worked side by side on two linked focus areas: Ecological CRC and Digitalization CRC. The first was related to digital acquisition of the credit archives. In about six months, almost 6 million pieces of paper were digitalized. The second focus group, on the other hand, involved the remainder of the internal process documents. This was a larger project involving eighty operational processes from accounting to contracts.
Dematerialization significantly improved process efficiency and simplified the changeover to AdES.
Whoever accesses digitalized documents is coded and the search for information has become much quicker and simpler. Digitalization, besides ensuring secure document registration, also freed up a lot of space, eliminating all of the cabinets in the offices. The clientèle is positively receiving the biometric signature solution at the counter.
"The result," stated Stefano Aldovrandi, "is that today, 36% of all documents regarding our process is dematerialized. A lot of energy was spent in the operations department where the digitalized percentage reaches 80%".
